Due to the absence of a rail network in Afghanistan, all trade is routed via land from Pakistan. Cargo destined for Afghanistan in transit through Pakistan (via Karachi Port) is exempt from customs duties and taxes in Pakistan. Nonetheless, a dedicated customs cell manages transit documentation for cargo at all Karachi ports.
Afghanistan lacks a railway system, relying solely on land routes from Pakistan for trade. Goods bound for Afghanistan in transit through Pakistan (via Karachi Port) are not subject to customs duties and taxes in Pakistan. Nevertheless, a specialized customs unit manages transit documentation for cargo at all Karachi ports.
All types of cargo, whether containerized or break-bulk, are transported by road from Karachi to the custom posts located at the following destinations.
  • Peshawar / Torkham for Cargo destined for Jalalabad / Kabul / Bagram.
  • Quetta / Chamman for Cargo destined for Kandahar / Herat / Lashkargah.
Necessary documentation is completed at the Customs Post, following which the cargo/container is transported across the border via laden trucks to Afghan Customs Posts in Torkham, Jalalabad, Kabul, or Kandahar, depending on the situation.
