Below are the routes for cargo heading to different destinations in Afghanistan: Through Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta.
Karachi, Pakistan serves as the closest sea port for importing cargo into Afghanistan. Pakistan holds a strategic advantage for Afghan Transit Trade (APTTA), with the Port of Karachi serving as a crucial hub and gateway to Afghanistan. Due to the absence of a rail network in Afghanistan, all trade is routed via land from Pakistan. Cargo destined for Afghanistan in transit through Pakistan (via Karachi Port) is exempt from customs duties and taxes in Pakistan. Nonetheless, a dedicated customs cell manages transit documentation for cargo at all Karachi ports.
Afghanistan lacks a railway system, relying solely on land routes from Pakistan for trade. Goods bound for Afghanistan in transit through Pakistan (via Karachi Port) are not subject to customs duties and taxes in Pakistan. Nevertheless, a specialized customs unit manages transit documentation for cargo at all Karachi ports.
All types of cargo, whether containerized or break-bulk, are transported by road from Karachi to the custom posts located at the following destinations.
